This learning module, I've learned how the Internet was first created and how it developed from a private infrastructure into the public communication superhighway we use today. There's the fact that America's worry about nuclear attacks destroying computer systems is what spawned the idea of having an interconnected network. Then over the years, that idea was developed on extensively, starting with Cerf's and Kahn's invention of internet protocols TCP and IP, then the invention of the hypertext system by Tim Berners-Lee, and the actual first release of the internet in 1992.
The video my group had used in our powerpoint presentation was insightful on how the TCP protocol works when it was explained using Vinton Cerf's postcard analogy.
I like to think I put enough time and effort into the first learning module. Except the part where I'm finishing this blog post last minute, so that is definitely something for me to work on.
So some new terminology I learned from this module would be:
TCP/IP - Stands for Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol, which allowed communication between connected network possible.
A Protocol in general - Which is a language or a set of rules for communication.
Hypertext - The more effective way of transfering information over a network.
The actual definition of Internet - A network of seperate networks operating under protocols like TCP/IP.
