From this lesson module I've learned the difference between malware, spyware, and adware, with the differences being:
Malware - Bad software that installs itself without the owner knowing.
Spyware- Malware with the task of finding information for advertisement purposes.
Adware - Any free program that shows ads on it. Usually not meant to be malicious.
I also learned that a worm is software that multiplies itself throughout your computer, and that trojan horses are tricky programs that installs on your computer without knowing and inserts viruses. The first defense to these types of malicious software are firewalls, which can filter out unwanted information through checking IP addresses and blocking open ports on a computer.
Speaking of firewalls, here's a nice simple video of how one works.
I like to think I did my best for this module. I also feel mother nature needs to stop with all this circulating warmth and snow days so I can stop feeling lethargic.
Worm - Type of malware that spreads through a network to infect other computers.
Trojan Horse - Type of malware that is meant to take access of things on your computer and cause harm or steal data.
Firewall - Filters out unwanted packets of data and lets in wanted information into your computer.
Adware - Programs that have ads on them, typically without the intent of harming your computer despite having a similar name to malware/spyware.
